Values and Evaluations in Inocenc Arnošt Bláha’s Sociology. Study from History of Classical Czech Sociology

What to do with sociology classics in the new millennium? What is the role and the importance of the first republic sociologist I. A. Bláha for constituting of sociology in the Czech Republic and in what does his concept lie? Is the criticism of social phenomena legitimate part of scientific activity or is it, at the very best, just a non-scientific activity conducted by scientists? The book can be ordered here (in Czech).

Looking for answers to these questions is a basis of the three parts of the wok concerned with sociology of Inocenc Arnošt Bláha (1897 - 1960), founder of sociology in Brno and one of the classics in this field in the Czech Republic. Elaboration on the role of Bláha in historical settings respects the division between his theoretical and institutional importance for the Czech sociology. The author reflects on the possibility of actualization of Bláha's sociology through his sociological engagement. This is interpreted as an attempt to revise naturalistic positivistic requirements on sociology and his ever-actual contribution to the resolution of the problems of postulates of non-evaluative science, which have been present in sociology from its beginning until now.
