Conference on the Council of Europe and European Court for Human Rights
Conference "60 Years of the Council of Europe - 50 Years of the European Court for Human Rights" is going to take place on 3rd December 2009 at the Masaryk University in Brno. The conference is organized by the Czech Centre on Human Rights and Democratization, which operates under International Institute of Political Science, in cooperation with the Council of Europe and with the Faculty of Social Studies of the Masaryk University. The aim of the conference is to cross-analyze the functioning of both important European institutions and to identify biggest challenges that are to be faced by these institutions in upcoming years.
Conference will be divided in two pannels. First one will analyze the functioning of the CoE and ECHR and the second one will deal with the biggest challenges to be faced by both institutions from the practical point of view. Pannels will be chaired by Hubert Smekal from the Faculty of Social Studies and Josef Mucha, judge at the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic. He was also occupying the position of ambassador to the Council of Europe in the past.
The conference will be attended by law scholars from the Masaryk University, Constitutional Court and European Court of Human Rights but also by political scientists or non-governmental organizations representatives. Vít Schorm (Government Representative at the European Court of Human Rights), Klára Veselá Samková (attorney), professor Dalibor Jílek or Kateřina Šimáčková, judge at The Supreme Administrative Court of the Czech Republic accepted invitations to speek at the conference, among others.
The organizers aim to offer not only law, but also other disciplines' view on the functioning of both institutions.
The conference will take place on 3rd December 2009 in the auditorium at the Faculty of Social Studies (Joštova 10, Brno).
