Winners of the best essay competition on the topic 'Twenty Years of Freedom or Democracy Is Not for Granted' have been announced on 5th November in Prague. The competition was organized by International Institute of Political Science of the Masaryk University, CEVRO Institute, PANT and Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung.

First place has been awarded to Monika Tomášů from Mlada Boleslav who wrote the essay named "Mom, What Is Communism?". Lenka Navrátilová from Plzen won second place, Kryštof Rybáček from Prague won third place. The competitors who finished from 4th to 10th place were awarded book prizes.

The essays of the finalists which have been published as a book by IIPS show that young generation, in spite of the fact that it doesn't have a first-hand experience with communism, is able to critically reflect this period and isn't afraid to articulate its opinion.
