Conference on the Council of Europe and European Court for Human Rights

Conference named '60 Years of the Council of Europe - 50 Years of the European Court for Human Rights' will be held at the Masaryk University on 3rd December 2009. It is organized by the Czech Centre for Human Rights and Democratization, which operates under International Institute of Political Science of the Masaryk University, in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the Faculty of Social Studies of the Masaryk University.
The conference will be attended by law scholars from the Masaryk University, Consitutional Court or the European Court for Human Rights, but also by political scientists and non-governmental organizations representatives. Organizers attempt to present not only insights from the law point of view, but also from other social science disciplines and to analyze the functioning of both institutions.
The aim of the conference is to assess the functioning of both important European institutions up to now, and to identify the biggest challenges, which are to be faced by both CoE and ECHR in the upcoming years. Conference will be divided in two pannels: The Influence of CoE/ECHR on the democratization of Europe and Current Challenges for CoE/ECHR.
The conference will be held on 3rd December 2009 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Studies (Jostova 10, Brno).
