Activities

Czech Centre for Human Rights and Democratization represents independent academic center
focusing on impartial scientific research within the field of human rights and democratization.
Its groundedness in university environment enables it to distinguish itself from non-governmental
institutions and also from governmental bodies operating in this area.

Areas of Concentration

The Centre specializes in several areas which have been selected taking into account courses taught
at the Dept. of International Relations and European Studies and at the Faculty of Law.
They also reflect academic interests of its members.

1. International Criminal Justice
2. European System of Human Rights Protection
3. International Politics and Human Rights
4. Czech Republic and Human Rights

In the Czech republic, institution such as this Centre has been missing for a long time despite the fact that such centres are very common abroad. The Czech Republic belongs to countries having recent experience with repressive regime which has not been respecting essential human rights of Czech and Slovak people for decades.

The activities of the Centre are as follows:

- to conduct independent research studies and recommendations

- to organize conferences and discussions

- to publish monthly on-line Bulletin (in Czech)

- to publish the Czech Republic Human Rights Review (in English) biannually.

- to provide education and to inform wider public through web sites and lectures

The Centre is taking advantage of its location in Brno, the center of the Czech justice and academic life. International Institute of Political Science has already been involved in the cooperation with the Faculty of Social Studies, Faculty of Law, the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, or The Supreme Administrative Court of the Czech Republic. Members of the Centre are in contact with the European Court of Human Rights, the Office of Public Defender of Rights, and also to non-governmental organizations.

The Centre represents high-quality information and educational institution which you may contact if you wish to learn more about the topics related to human rights and democratization or if you want to conduct a study on given topic.
